The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had sent notices a few years back to Amitabh Bachchan and seven others including Rajkumar Hirani, Oberoi Realty, Pankaj Balaji, Sanjay Vyas, Haresh Khandelwal and Haresh Jagtani for illegal construction. The matter has now been raised by Congress Councilor Advocate Tulip Brian Miranda. The councilor accused the BMC of not taking any action despite giving notice.
Following Tulip’s intervention, the civic body has taken notice of 2017 and will soon demolish the part of Bachchan’s first bungalow Pratiksha in Mumbai. Talking to a news agency, the councilor said that BMC had first given notice to Bachchan under the road widening policy in 2017 but no action was taken. He said that no appeal was required for the road widening project after the notice was served.
The councilor further said that if it was a common man, BMC would have acted immediately under section 299 of the Municipal Act which says that you need not wait for the second notice appeal.
The councilor said that the widening of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Marg road connecting Chandan Cinema area with Link Road towards ISKCON was stuck due to Bachchan bungalow. Therefore the civic body has been directed to demarcate the exact portion of the bungalow required for road widening.
Reportedly, Bachchan and others were issued monopolistic and restrictive trade practices in 2016-17 because they apparently made changes to the main map.
